Advantages

I suppose video could be recorded and distributed to students who missed lecture/lesson. It could be considered that videos make information more accessible as some students will find that film presents information in an engaging way that visual techniques of teaching add another dimension to student learning as it is a tutors job to cater to all types of learner. Some subjects it is important to have sources from past and present to construct a wholesome argument/opinion of a topic. Using video enables a tutor to present past ideas as well as their own current ideas and means they can avoid relying solely on text reading, which can arguably become boring/too repetitive.

Disadvantages

Students may think teacher isn't bothering to turn up so why should they we're paying £3,500- £9,500 for university tuition so deserve to be taught face to face. Some students learn from direct interaction and need the physical presence of a tutor to engage them and to fully understand the topic.  Some lectures use interaction by ability/ skill to communicate between students and tutors to develop ideas and the technology of Skype would prevent this and question the profession of a lecturer, also if they were to digitize lectures as far a Skype some people would ask why don't they just film lecturers and email it round to students to watch whenever they want and at convenient times.
